INTRODUCTION
前言
Nothing is easy anymore. Life is far too complicated for any of the classical mathematical equations. In today's world for things to work out, at least for those extraordinary ones that last and bring real change, we need something extra, an extra synergy, magic, will, grit, vision or dream… what some call luck, yet luck has nothing to do with it.
Although mathematically incorrect, in life 1+1 equaling 3 is possible and could eventually be 4 or 5 or higher, depending on hidden variables added to the equation. Those hidden variables act as a multiplier and give us something that makes us greater than what we are.
We all have challenges, often to do more with less, the hidden variables of leadership are the multiplier that allows us to do more and be more. Also we all have, to some extent, leadership roles to accomplish, whether at work, at home, in our life, with our family, friends, kids. Our leadership impacts us all around, influencing every single outcome, yet in the end it is all on us, to individually own it, grow it, develop it and nurture it. Our ideas on growing and driving changes, or even sometimes just surviving them, have been developed from a lifetime of experience, made mostly by subconscious minds, those of ourselves and our families, as well as those of our communities together with a few conscious ideas from our own living and education. The vast majority, though, is subconscious, the base of our default system, as a sort of immediate reaction to everything that happens around us.
Working on revisiting them, will not only allow you to grow taller but also to contribute more.
By being more intentional in your reflecting and committing to change, you can become a far more effective individual at exploring regularly those multiplying variables that make all the difference.
Enclosed are some reflections, thoughts, conclusions, reminders and lessons learned along the way. They are all developed from my day-to-day activities, colleagues, friends and teams but mainly from trying and failing. These thoughts have been divided into 5 sections as a way to start your own self-reflection. Each thought needs its own space. Dedicate 5 minutes to each one, probably two or three per day.
The first section, Direction, speaks about what are you trying to accomplish, the vision/mission, your ultimate dream.
The second section, You, is about understanding your motivations, routines and best patterns of behavior.
The third section, Better You, is something self–explanatory and includes thoughts on making you bolder.
The fourth section, Teams, refers to how we interact with our colleagues and develop better relationships.
The fifth section, Life, is more of a 360 related to your day-to day possibilities on a variety of topics.
This is not intended to be a book, but rather a daily notebook of thoughts, a work journal to stimulate and capture your thinking and actions about leadership. Most of the publications in this field are written using a case study approach, referring always to someone who faced a similar challenge or situation.
In contrast, this one is done with a more Asian approach of self discovery and personal reflection, hence the format allows you to write on each page your own thoughts, conclusions, reflections or actions to be taken for your own development and progress.
No particular order has to be followed other than your own personal interests and growth.
I have also included some classic quotes. I hope they are all as useful to you as they have been to me.
All in all, I hope some of these reflections will allow you to keep on growing and becoming even more successful to finally contribute to make a better WE.
